In 2024, International Democracy Hub (IDH) submitted this Stakeholder Report in advance of the Fourth Cycle Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) conducted under the United Nations Human Rights Council. The submission provided evidence-based, youth-led analysis of persistent human rights violations in the DPRK, drawing on open-source research, UN documentation, and civil society reporting, with particular focus on forced labor, restrictions on fundamental freedoms, children’s rights, and the situation of vulnerable groups.
Through this submission, IDH sought to support UN Member States in formulating clear and actionable recommendations, strengthen international accountability and follow-up, and ensure that credible civil society perspectives—especially those of young people and North-background voices—were meaningfully reflected throughout the UPR process.
