ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR
Deliver Human Rights Values to a Border Public
Once or twice a year, the IDH designs and implements original creative initiatives to communicate the seriousness of North Korean human rights in an accessible and engaging manner. These projects aim to lower barriers to understanding while expanding public engagement with North Korean human rights issues.
A distinctive feature of these initiatives is the active participation of young artists from North Korean defector backgrounds who contribute their lived experiences, creative perspectives, and artistic voices. Through this collaborative approach, IDH creates platforms where human rights narratives are expressed authentically and meaningfully.
IDH presents its perspectives on North Korean human rights through diverse cultural and artistic formats, including exhibitions that approach human rights through visual art and concerts that convey human rights messages through music. By integrating human rights advocacy with artistic expression, these projects humanize complex issues and foster empathy among wider audiences.
Through sustained engagement with young defector artists, IDH not only broadens public awareness of North Korean human rights but also supports the empowerment, visibility, and long-term capacity development of emerging voices from the North Korean defector community.
